Get To Know Bravo’s “Invite Only Cabo” Star Larry Sims

Hair genius  to the stars Larry Sims, is a force in the entertainment industry. Originally from Chicago, Larry pursued dance becoming a choreographer before dominating as a hairstylist for nearly 10 years . Aside his long list of celebrity clients from Tracee Ellis RossZendayaKerry Washington and gal pal Gabrielle Union, Larry is responsible for Victoria Beckham’s  trendy, chic bob she introduced in 2008. With his hit Bravo show, “Invite Only Cabo”, Larry invites his close circle of friends together for a luxury vacation in Cabo. The funny, energetic, drama filled  series displays Larry’s personal life amongst his peers who never experienced a group vacation. I was able to catch up with Larry right before the season finale of “Invite Only Cabo” to talk show highlights, personal  accomplishments and future endeavors.

Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself.

A: I am a celebrity hairstylist and have been  for almost 10 years now. Some of my cliental include Gabrielle Union, Tracee Ellis Ross, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Kerry Washington, Sanaa Lathan and Victoria Beckham.

Q: When Bravo approached you about doing a reality show documenting the lives of you and your friends on vacation what were yor initial thoughts?

A: Honestly, I never wanted to do a mini documentary on my career. I did a competition based show previously and enjoyed that but when the producers from Bravo pitched me the show concept,  it felt right.

Q: Describe “Invite To Cabo” in 3 words?

A: Jaw dropping, mesmerizing and breathtaking.

Q: What’s your best memory from this season either on or off camera ?

A: One of my most fondest memories is the comradery people found in each other. When we started filming most of my friends didn’t know each other and had lots of differences. For instance, one episode Kamani was involved in an ATV accident. Although her and Bianca weren’t seeing eye to eye at the time everyone was still able to put their differences aside and be there for Kamani. Another favorite memory of mine  will be on the season finale so you have to stay tuned.

Q: What do you hope the show will do to propel you to the next level in the future?

A: I loved doing the show because it definitely gave me more visibility of who I am as a person and artist. It’s giving me the opportunity expand my brand into my other passions like fashion. I have a hat line in the works that I’m very hyped about, a book and am a current spokesperson for Smooth n Shine hair care products. This platform has offered me the opportunity to produce my own content as well and I’m so grateful for that.

Q: As a previous dancer/choreographer , are there any elements of dance that you incorporate in your hair artistry?

A: Absolutely! I’m an artist first so I’m always inspired by the clients I work with. I’m constantly bringing different elements of dance when styling hair. Because I have a strong eye for unique styles and performances I’m able to live vicariously through art which displays in my work. Being a dancer has also inspired my since of style. It’s a way of life.

Q: What song are you currently blasting this summer?

A: Definitely the new Rihanna record with DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller. I’m loving Jay-Z’s 4:44. Sevyn Streeter is an amazing artist as well as Kevin Ross and is underrated in my opinion. Letoya Luckett’s new album is amazing as well.

Q: Who’s your current style muse?

A: Gabrielle Union. She’s one of my dearest friends and we have a lot of fun together. Right now she’s rocking a natural organic look and it works for her.

Q: What is one thing you wish you knew prior to filming your show?

A:  *Laughs* I never realized how time consuming a reality show actually is.  It’s literally 24/7 of your life being filmed with no breaks. When you wake up, a camera is there. When you go to sleep, a camera is there. Being on television/production is a lot of hard work but I’m happy to have done the show with support from  the right people and network.

Q: Advice to your 17 year old self?

A: Give yourself permission to be fearless in whatever it is you pursue. The first step is the hardest but you got this.

Be sure to tune into the season finale of “Invite Only Cabo” airing tonight at 9pm on Bravo!

EXCLUSIVE: Larry Sims Talks “Invite Only Cabo”, Decision To Do Reality TV & His Sexuality

Larry Sims On “Invite Only Cabo”, Decision To Do Reality TV & Sexuality

Larry Sims has been projected to be a charismatic, charming, down to Earth, hair stylist from Chicago. After years of hard work and grinding, there is no need to project: Larry Sims is everything people have been talking about. Before the successful 40-year-old was working with A-List celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Gabrielle Union, Tracee Ellis Ross, Queen Latifah, and Lupita Nyong’o – Sims was a dancer in Chicago that worked closely with R. Kelly and a slew of other artists.

Fast forward to today, he’s added reality star to his resume. During a recent interview with, Sims dishes on his new reality show Invite Only Cabo, his apprehension about doing reality TV and some of the backlash that he’s received. Check out a few excerpts below.

Why he decided to do reality TV:

It was one of those things where people have for years been reaching out to me, trying to figure out what would be a great fit for me – in terms of reality. I have been very particular of how I’ve crafted my career. And, I think I’ve really built a solid brand for myself that is really respected. I could see why be a potentially good look for production companies or networks to be in business with me. I wanted to do something that didn’t feel forced. I’m not a dramatic person. I’m not ‘ratchet.’ And I wanted to do something productive.

How he got involved with Invite Only Cabo
So, when 495 productions – the curators of Jersey Shore – SallyAnn Salsano, the owner too that company reached out to me and she said to me that she had my picture on her vision board for three years and that she was waiting on the right opportunity and the right project. It was perfect.
His apprehensiveness about reality TV:
The last thing I really wanted to do was give people a gateway to my personal life or their opinions about personal relationships with my friends. I definitely was apprehensive about that. But, I also felt safe because it was Bravo, Creme De La Creme.

If he was portrayed accurately:

I feel like I’ve been myself. There are things that you can’t control because it is only a 42 minute show. There a lot of things that people unfortunately don’t get to see.

What he thinks he received the most backlash on with his show:

The most backlash I’ve received is this fascination with [my] sexuality.

If he opens up about his sexuality on the show:

I’m absolutely going to live all of my truth out loud. I am a 40-year-old man, I don’t have anything to hide. I’m not afraid of who I am, and I’m very proud of who I am.

If there will be a season two:

It’s too soon to know. But we’ve definitely talked about potential ideas if it does come about. Regardless if it’s with Invite Only or another outlet, I definitely know this isn’t my last bit on TV.

Watch the season finale of Invite Only Cabo this Sunday 9/8c on Bravo!
